How to Order a Cake
Wedding Cakes

Congratulations on your Engagement!

Once you have contacted me I will confirm my availablity and we can then begin the fun part of making plans for the wedding cake of your dreams.  I will take your ideas, colour theme and preferences, add in my experience and expertise and together we can begin to realise your vision.

I start with a sketch based on these ideas so you can visualise the design and I will be able to  give you a rough idea of prices.

This is where you get to sample my delicious cakes. For a small charge of £20 you may select upto four sponges from the flavour menu for tasting, if you decide to book in with me this £20 will be deducted from the total cost of your order. Then we move on to finalise the designs for your cake. If you wish to book, a £100 non-refundable deposit is taken to reserve your date. This is based on the final cake price. You will then receive an invoice which includes all the details that we have discussed and agreed.

As your magical day approaches I will get in touch just to go over everything one last time and make sure everything is perfect for your special day. Please note that any additions to the agreed design may alter the price.

Delivery and set-up within 10 miles of Chard is included in the price where I personally deliver and set up every wedding cake to ensure your cake looks stunning. Deliveries further afield will attract a delivery and fuel charge.

Celebration cakes
Please feel free to contact me to discuss your requirements. You may already know what sort of design you have in mind but often my customers are happy to throw a few ideas at me which I will then use to create a unique cake tailored to the recipients interests, hobbies or work.  The design often depends on the size of the cake, I am happy to guide you through this process.

There are a number of flavours and fillings for you to choose from on the Info page.
Once we have establisthed the design I will quote you for the cake and request a £20 retainer fee to secure the booking. The balance is payable a week before the cake is collected.
Collection is agreed at a mutually convenient time.  For a small fee I will deliver the cake to the party venue or location so you can relax and enjoy the celebrations.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much notice do I need to order a cake?

As much notice as possible is required, but to avoid disappointment, novelty cakes need to be ordered at least two weeks in advance. If you would like to order a wedding cake, at least two months notice will be necessary.  Please note that fruit cakes are better if they are made a minimum of three months before your big day as it gives me chance to feed them with brandy to allow them to mature – this enhances the flavour and allows the cake to be cut more easily.

How do I decide what size cake I need?
For a guide to what size cake you will need, please refer to my Portion guide on the Info. page.

Cake Stand Hire

I have a number of cake stands, for wedding cakes and cupcakes, that I hire out for a small additional fee. This can be discussed and arranged at the time of ordering.

How to take care of  your cake

Cakes which are covered in sugarpaste need to be stored in a breathable container, such as the card box it is supplied in. They do not like to be put in sealed tins or in the refrigerator.

Cakes which are covered in buttercream are better stored in a refrigerator (unless they have delicate sugar flowers on them), this will keep them fresher for longer.

Fruit cakes can be kept for several months but sponge cakes are best eaten within one week.

Please be aware that stacked cakes may contain plastic supports or dowels and these should be removed before the cake is served. Any wired decorations are usually arranged in a plastic 'posy pick' which can be removed in one piece and this needs to be removed before the cake is served. Whilst most wired decorations are edible, it is not recommended that these are consumed. Wired decorations and sugar cake toppers may be sharp and should be handled with care, they can be kept as keepsakes.

You will be informed at delivery or collection if there are any wires or supports and where they are located.
